The City of Manistee is proud of it's heritage.  It is well known as "The Victorian Port City" and also "Salt City of the Inland Seas".  A town founded by the Lumber Industry in early 1800's, it has also been a Great Lakes Port of Call for over 150 years. The downtown has been designated a State and National Historic Site.

The "Victorians in Person" Style Show featuring authentic clothing reproductions styled by local residents is held during festivals throughout the year including:

Forest Festival and Fourth of July Celebration

Victorian Fall Festival

Sleighbell Parade and Old Christmas Weekend

Residents enjoy the historic and nostalgic activities which take place in Manistee City.

Various other historic festivals take place in other parts of the County which are celebrated with equal enthusiasm.
